Top 5: MMA Fighters To Never Get A UFC Title

For most MMA fighters to be called great they have to win that coveted UFC title. However, there are a selected few fighters who could retire now never achieving this and still become one of the greats. These are the top 5 fighters who I think deserve the recognition of 'great'.

5. Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone (29-7, 1 NC)

Last on the list but by no means least is the one and only cowboy. There is no way I could write this list without putting Cerrone on it. He is the definition of 'fight anyone, anywhere, anytime' Donald Cerrone is my favourite fighter because he doesn't care who he fights. One of my favourite fights of his is against Myles Jury where Jury failed to engage so Cerrone hit him with what he called 'fuck you kicks'. Although he lost his title fight against Rafael Dos Anjos he made no excuses when he was hit with a hard liver kick and said he couldn't get rid of his inner bitch and for that I respect him.

4. John 'The Magician' Dodson (18-7)
Dodson won the Ultimate Fighter season 14 at 135 pounds where he knocked out former bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw. Since winning the tournament he went down to 125 pounds where he went undefeated apart from his 2 loses to the untouchable champion Demetrious 'Mighty Mouse' Johnson which prompted his move back up to the bantamweight division where he defeated his first opponent by TKO in the first round. We will be seeing him presented with a chance at the belt should his form continue at bantamweight.

3. Alexander 'The Mauler' Gustafsson (16-4)
Firstly, Alexander “the Mauler” Gustafsson has to be on this list because there are two very people who believe he is the UFC light heavyweight champion of the world and that is two of the judges. This is because he has fought for the title twice both times losing a split decision. Most of you will know what that means, but for those of you who don’t know a split decision is when out of the three judges one of them will scores the fight for “the Mauler”. I don’t believe he will ever win the title as long as Daniel Cormier or Jon Jones are the champions, however he will always be the number two or three contender.
2. Diego Sanchez (26-8)
Diego “the Dream” Sanchez has been in the UFC since winning the Ultimate Fighter season 1! Now I know he might not be everyone’s choice for this list, I have put him in because what you will all get to know about me through my future blogs I like the fighters who are fighters. He has been doing that in the UFC for over 11 years. Now I know that sounds stupid because they are all fighters. I mean when have you ever seen Diego not give it everything he has. For example, when he fought Gilbert Melendez. That was the craziest fight I have seen, he has not been on top form over the past few years. However, I do truly believe he is coming back with I predict a win over Joe Lauzon at UFC 200 by TKO victory in round two.

1. Michael 'The Count' Bisping (28-7)
It is impossible to have this discussion and not bring up ‘the count’. Michael Bisping has been a UFC top contender for the past ten years and every time he has come close to gaining a title shot, he has fallen at the last hurdle. However, looking back at the past ten years with hindsight as Bisping is quick to remind us most of his losses have come to PED (performance enhancing drug) users such as Chael Sonnen and Vitor Belfort. Despite his losses Bisping has always come back stronger and keep himself in the top 10 or even top 5, which is proof from his current win streak after the loss to current middleweight champion Luke Rockhold. I’m sure most of the MMA community will agree with me when I say after his win over Anderson Silva he deserves a rematch with Luke Rockhold giving him the shot he deserves for the UFC gold. Thankfully he has got it!! Honestly do I think he will win it I am not sure. For him to beat Luke Rockhold he will have to fight how he used to and that is putting on the pressure in the three rounds and not letting it get out of the first few rounds.
