Ronda Rousey DESTROYED In 48 Seconds: Analysis and Breakdown

Well if you're anything like me you watched all of the build up, any good media coverage you could find and speculated with friends as to what we expected when the infamous Ronda Rousey returned. You stayed up into the early hours to watch this incredible event and how it was going to go down.

Ronda Rousey was knocked out at UFC 207 in 48 seconds of the first round.

This result left many of us in shock, angry and disappointed. Some people expected this result and most of us knew it was very possible. Personally I was kind speechless but also disappointed, my colleague and friend was angry and all those emotions are perfectly acceptable.

When you look at the fight it's very obvious what happened. Rousey was simply not ready. Nunes landed her first punch and rocked Rousey's head back and Rousey thought "OH SHIT!!" she completely lost her head and her confidence. She had absolutely no guard, it was truly embarrassing. Honestly it looked like an amateur fighter's first fight against an experienced pro.

Amanda cracked her with several big shots and she didn't even close the distance or move out or even close her guard. It honestly was like a beginner getting hit hard for the first time. She stayed right on the end on Amanda's punches and full absorbed Amanda's power strikes.

The big question is what on earth did Ronda spend a year doing?? Rousey had over a year to get over her loss and get back into training. But instead I can't even imagine what she actually did. What she should have done is spend a lot of time with a sports psychologist and worked out all of the issues she had.

The massive issue was her boxing and maybe the most criticized thing by the media and the public was her boxing and head coach Edward Tarverdyan. He's been highly criticized for awful cornering in the Holly Holm where she needed to be told technical advice followed by strong motivation because she was getting her ass handed to her but instead he said yes yes that was perfect. Ronda absolutely needed to change camps after the last fight and she did not, the result is a 48 second knockout. Theres is also a very contentious issue of if she did any heavy sparring because that looked like the first time she'd been hit since the KO.

One thing we can't do is take anything away from Amanda Nunes. She executed a perfect gameplan although that was the easiest fight of her career

Ronda Rousey In Phenomenal Shape Ahead of UFC 207 Return

Ronda Rousey will make her return to the UFC and the sport of Mixed Martial Arts on December 30th. The return will be one of if not the biggest ever in MMA history. UFC 207 will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, the home of the UFC. The return has been over a year in the making since her upset loss to Holly Holm.

Rousey was highly talked of the month after the defeat but not at all seen. Apart from a few scarce impersonal Instagram posts Rousey was gone. There was a lot of talk in the media about whether she really wanted it anymore and whether she was ever going to fight again. There was a lot of talk about her work in films and the serious potential for a career in films of her previous work and superstar name. Then we learnt that she was watching when Miesha Tate choked out Holly Holm in the fifth round for the belt and reportedly text Dana White saying I've got to get back to work.

Since that announcement from Dana the world speculated as to her return, but we heard nothing. Lots of us expected that when she returned she'd get the immediate title shot and deservedly so. Meanwhile Rousey was hiding away in the gym with her old trainer Edward Tarverdyan and her Jiu Jitsu coach, getting back into shape and finely polishing the skills again. She has spoken to and says she will not speak to any media, also her team are not allowed to speak to media. Then at the UFC 205 weigh-ins at the end Ronda and Amanda appear to face-off, now it feels real.

If you haven't seen the UFC 207 promo you should watch it, but it's actually called the Ronda Rousey promo... she's the only thing in it. Rousey attributed a lot of the stress due to the pressure that was put on her as the best martial artist and the greatest female mixed martial artist ever and a huge role model for children and women everywhere.

However the thing about this promo is that it's all about Ronda Rousey, her return and how she was the greatest ever. The big question is if she can handle the pressure, at the moment she's helping that by having this media blackout but we have to think that as fight week comes she's going to have to do the regular media. The UFC's promo makes it look like it's Ronda versus a broomstick. Amanda Nunes is the Women's Bantamweight champion who knocked out the former champion Miesha Tate in 1 round. She's a very good striker and great on the ground.

The fight is going to be very interesting because I believe without a doubt that if a practiced and determined Ronda comes back who's completely emotionally stable that she will finish Amanda inside the first round. But if she's still unstable then she can get knocked out again very easily.

We have to remember that Ronda Rousey is still the greatest female mixed martial artist ever. She has:
Amateur
3 fights
3 wins
3 submissions
3 by armbar
Pro
13 fights
12 wins
12 finishes
11 in the first round

That's god damn incredible.

Conor McGregor: I am still a two-weight world champion, UFC is fooling nobody

Credit: Esther Lin (MMA Fighting)

Live on the UFC Fight Night Melbourne broadcast last weekend the UFC announced that Conor McGregor had relinquished the UFC Featherweight title. This is saying that he voluntarily gave up the title.

Conor was quiet for almost a week then on Friday during a Q&A session at the Devenish Bar in Belfast, Northern Ireland. McGregor was inevitably asked about the loss of the 145lb title, his response was "I aint stripped, I still got that belt, I'm still a two-weight world champion"

"I’m still the two-way world champion, someone has to come take that from me. I see articles, I see stuff online, but I don’t see the belt not in my presence. The belt is right there, there’s two world titles at my home."

The interviewer asked Conor if he'd been stripped or if he had relinquished the title, this was Conor's response. "Eddie [Alvarez] is still unconscious, what do you mean? I only fought last week. Them belts are mine." "you can play with those fake belts all you want. Jose was KO'd, Eddie was KO’d, you’re looking at the two-weight world champion and that’s it. I’ll say to the UFC, and I love their company, you’re fooling nobody, you’re fooling nobody with that."

CONOR MCGREGOR FORCED TO RELINQUISH UFC FEATHERWEIGHT TITLE!!

Live on the UFC fight night Melbourne show the UFC announced that Conor McGregor has relinquished the featherweight title. As of yet it's sounding slightly sly and that McGregor doesn't know about it yet but no news on that so far.

The UFC has appointed Jose Aldo the featherweight champion which is... hilarious. They've done this because Daniel Cormier has had to pull out of his UFC 206 main event light heavyweight championship against Anthony Johnson and the card isn't really worth the PPV especially with a fight of that magnitude has fallen off

They have made Max Holloway vs Anthony Pettis the main event for the interim featherweight title because it's also not worth the PPV without the title and for them to do that they have to upgrade Aldo's interim to a full title. (Interesting to note that Aldo has never won the title he has always been 'upgraded').

McGregor haters are happy where as the rest of us genuine fans are a little bit disappointed, not surprised but disappointed. Now we have a 'champion' that was knocked out in 13 seconds by the actual champion. Greeeaaaattt... Basically now we just wait for McGregor's tweet telling Dana White to suck his big Irish balls.

Now we speculate McGregor's next opponent! obviously with the featherweight division no longer an option it leaves a lightweight contender or the trilogy with Nate Diaz. With no stand out contender at lightweight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson, Diaz would offer the perfect solution however with that fight now very likely to be held at 155 that would mean Nate leap frogging the 2 contenders. So that puts in the place where the most likely situation is they let Conor take time off for his baby and do Khabib vs Tony for the #1 contender. If that doesn't happen then it's likely to be a McGregor vs Khabib for the 155 title because Khabib's been calling him out and talking trash about him.

CONOR MCGREGOR DESTROYS ALVAREZ! TWO WEIGHT WORLD CHAMPION!!

For the first time ever, we have a 2 division world champion and his name is Conor McGregor. This was an insane card with a spectacular finish!! It was a long build up as the UFC constructed their mega card for the first ever MMA event in New York, they of course choose MSG.

This fight happened exactly as every Conor fan dreamt it would. Conor came out composed and loose with hands ready. I'm trying to think of a way to hype this up but straight up this was men against boys.

In the first round Conor dropped Eddie with a big left hand and there was a little scramble then Eddie got back up. Conor still looked cool calm and collected, Conor preceded to look for the shots and found another left hand which dropped Alvarez again and then he dropped him another time!! Yes you did read that correctly, McGregor dropped him 3 times in the first round and Eddie offered almost no offence. That's a 10-8 round.

In the second round it was more of the same, he dropped him early but Eddie recovered then McGregor hit him with a ridiculous combo of killer after killer as he fell to the canvas. He was out, John McCarthy stops the fight and saves Eddie from himself.

History is made. An incredible event. A great venue. Incredible performances. SUPERB.

UFC 205: THOMPSON VS WOODLEY CO-MAIN EVENT BREAKDOWN!!

Tyron 'The Chosen One' Woodley sets on to defend his newly claimed welterweight title, this Saturday against the number two contender Stephen 'Wonderboy' Thompson. I have already made my pick for this fight. However I'm going to keep this as unbiased as possible. If you want to see mine and Caleb's picks click on the link at the bottom of the article.

I'm going to start of with the champion The Chosen One. The number one thing for Tyron to use is fakes. Everyone talks about the blitzing speed he poses it is nothing new for Wonderboy. So Tyron needs to get around his side kick by faking the blitz to get a reaction out of Wonderboy then blitzing in afterwards. Secondly he can not let it be a chess match like Rory MacDonald did. He has to take a page out of Matt Browns book and make it an ugly dirty fight and just grind Wonderboy into positions he isn't comfortable with. Although Tyron only has three takedowns in the UFC all coming from when he fought Condit. Tyron is a decorated wrestler he needs to use it during this fight or at least he has to threaten Wonderboy with the takedown. Finally he can't be scared of Wonderboy's leg most of Wonderboy's opponents lose as soon as he lifts his leg. Tyron has to shut his leg down before Wonderboy gets his timing because once he does it will be difficult to shut down.

Right now on to the number two contender. I think it is pretty obvious what the game plan if for Wonderboy and that is to keep the fight at his range and distance. He needs to keep the fight a clean pretty fight. So that he can slow Tyron down and keep the fight at his pace. He needs to stay on his side kick once Tyron has blitzed in to a couple of them Tyron will start shooting in for desperate takedowns. When Tyron starts to lower his hands to protect his body that is when Wonderboy needs to go head hunting but keeping the head kicks diverse throwing everything he has from hook kicks to axe kicks. Wonderboy needs to keep his back off of the cage he can not allow Tyron to settle in to the fight and built his confidence making him charge in. Wonderboy needs to be the one to back Tyron up against the cage just like when he fought Hendricks allowing him to tee off and pick his shots still keeping it a clean and pretty fight.

CONOR MCGREGOR FILM - A MUST WATCH!!

About 3 days ago I watched the best MMA film ever produced by an 'amateur'. A YouTuber by the name of Hizzer Edits released a Film about the MMA superstar Conor McGregor. The film covers his rise to the title and the events leading up to and including the Aldo fight and the last two fights with Nate Diaz.

It's a mastery of editing and honestly credits a job with the UFC, it portrays so many different looks and provokes different emotions from the viewer. I know you didn't click to read this so simply YOU MUST WATCH THIS!!

HOW DID THE BRITISH FIGHTERS DO? UFC 204 Report - Danny Roberts VS Mike Perry

Danny Roberts VS Mike Perry
Up first on the UFC Fight Pass prelims was Englishman Danny 'Hot Chocolate' Roberts. Roberts faced knockout king Mike Perry, Perry's record was 8 fights, 8 wins, 8 knockouts, 6 in the first round. Roberts has spent a lot of time at American Top Team in Florida and has become a more well rounded fighter as a result.

Danny's gameplan seemed to be overwhelm Perry and land a few big shots to wobble him and he absolutely executed that game plan, the issue was that needed to dodge almost every punch to execute this gameplan due to a combination of Danny not having a strong chin and Perry's massive one punch power.

The first round was going quite well for Danny he was landing a high volume of good technical striking and his movement looked good and also demonstrated high power in a few strikes that seemed to bother Perry only slightly due to his rock solid chin. Perry seemed to be just missing the clean contact he needed for the big shots, towards the end of the round Perry waited patiently for the big shot that dropped Roberts but Perry was unable to finish him.
MMA Genius Scorecard:
Round 1: 10-9 Perry

In the second round Roberts has fully recovered and comes out looking much better and Perry starts to look a little more laboured. Roberts stands landing clean often, Perry lands very very few shots. Towards the end of the round Roberts is on fire landing huge power shots again and again and again fully rocking Perry's head back, which would have dropped 95% of the division and finished most of them. He also frequently landed hard head kicks andstarted working on Perry's front leg mainly with outside leg kicks. At this point with about a minute to go I have it scored extremely close to a 10-8 I was just waiting for Perry to drop, Roberts was putting on a striking clinic against the tired and rocked Perry. With 20 seconds to go Perry lands one big shot and drops roberts but can't capitalize before the bell goes for the end of the round. Scoring wise this is very difficult as Roberts dominated 4:40 of the round but Perry dropped him. You could score ot for Perry on damage but Roberts controlled so much of that round and landed very powerful shots definitely causing damage to Perry.
MMA Genius Scorecard:
Round 2: 10-9 Roberts
Total: 19-19

Credit: MMAFighting
All even going into the third but also potentially 2-0 to Perry, regardless Roberts had to pull out a good round to get the win. Roberts came out looking like he knew that information, he did more of the same in the third, looking quite dominant and winning the round. This is the story of the fight, Roberts was 30 seconds away from the end of the fight and potentially winning, on my scorecard it would've been 29-28 Roberts. With under 30 seconds to go Roberts gets caught with a big right hand which wobbles him and he bends over and gets caught with a big knee which basically knocks him out and he catches another punch on the way down. Referee Marc Goddard was very lenient on the stoppage because Roberts seemed to show some life after hitting the ground before taking more heavy punches but also because he was seconds from winning at home.

Result: Perry wins via KO (Knee and punches) Round 3 (4:40)
UK 0-1 Rest of the World

UFC 204: Michael Bisping Vs Dan Henderson Breakdown

Early Sunday morning, Michael Bisping aged 37 will defend his Middleweight championship for the first time in hi hometown of Manchester, England. His opponent is 46 year old Dan Henderson who has the chance to win the only belt he's not been able to get, the coveted UFC belt in his last fight before retirement. Yes all of that information is correct and this is going to be an incredible athletic battle which you will only see in the sport of mixed martial arts, in any other sport after 30 you're done, welcome to MMA.

As many of you will know this fight has happened before, at UFC 100 in 2009 Bisping was set to face Dan Henderson with the promise that if he beat Dan he would be given the title shot next. We all know what happened that night...

This is a photo just after Dan Henderson knocked out Michael Bisping stiff with 1 right overhand. The image of Dan Henderson flying through the air was an iconic one, one that he used as his logo ever since. Milliseconds after this photo Dan lands another full force right hand to the head of a clearly unconscious Bisping.

On Saturday night these to men will meet again and Bisping looks to get another loss back. In order for Bisping to win this his job sounds very simple but its actually extremely difficult, as shown in the photo above. Henderson is known for his tremendously strong right overhand punch, to the point where it has a name, the H-bomb. If Bisping can avoid this punch then winning is almost guaranteed, Bisping will outwork Henderson and could potentially knock Henderson out in the later rounds maybe 3,4 or 5. For Bisping he must establish his jab and more importantly movement, Henderson is extremely old for such a high level of competition and he is a lot slower than Bisping, Bisping has to tire Hendo out and watch for the power shots. For Henderson it's simple, try not to take too much damage through volume and land the H-bomb early and often.

The implications of this fight are huge. If Bisping wins then he gets back the most devastating loss in his career and solidifies himself as champion by defending it. He would also continue to go undefeated in the UK. For Henderson if he wins and keeps to his promise he would retire with the only belt he could never get his hands on until the last fight of his career and solidify him in the hall of fame. He would leave the division without a champion but in an almost beautiful and elegant way.

This Girl just Pulled Off A RIDICULOUS JUMPING HEAD KICK KO!!

This ridiculously beautiful girl is a superstar and also an incredibly skilled savage. This is Paige VanZant, Paige is ranked number 10 in the UFC 115 pound women's strawweight division. This UFC fighter is one of many talents, an accomplished dancer, a model and one of the baddest women on the planet!!

Paige VanZant is a 22 year old American Mixed Martial Artist with a record of 7-2, 7 wins and 2 loses. She is (4-1 UFC) with 3 finishes which is actually the most finishes in the short history of the UFC women's strawweight division. She is a very well rounded fighter holding victories 2 by KO/TKO, 2 by submission and 3 by decision. Although she has a very impressive record she is incredibly young in the MMA world and relatively inexperienced but is only 2 fights away from being in the title conversation.

Paige has been a poster girl for the UFC very early on with not much credit to her name fightwise, this is very simply because she's incredibly beautiful with a decent prospects in the sport. Reebok also notice that being a pretty girl in such a male dominated sport with women becoming more and more popular as Paige is one of few fighters who have an endorsement deal along with Ronda Rousey, Holly Holm, Conor McGregor and Holly Holm. VanZant is also a pretty damn good dancer, she placed second in series 22 of Dancing With The Stars, which came at a great time in her MMA career after her first loss in the UFC it was perfect timing to refresh, take a break while gaining even more fame than she did fighting and becoming a bigger name.

Paige then returns to the octagon against Bec Rawlings and pulls off one of the most spectacular finishes in the history of women's MMA at the top level. Paige VanZant pulls off a jumping switch head kick KO. In the second round. At 115 pounds. Jesus christ. She was clearly looking for the technique as part of her game plan, she threw it a couple of times in the first round while generally not engaging and looking to try and wear out Rawlings although largely not successful losing the first round. She comes out in the second round and in 14 seconds connects with the ridiculous kick and puts Rawlings out immediately, you can see her eyes roll back in her head and when she hits the ground you can actually see her wake up a little bit and moves a little bit but takes more shots from Paige then the referee was forced to stop the fight. It was a ridiculous knockout and will be held as one of the best in the strawweight division for a little while I think.

Conor McGregor VS Nate Diaz!! The Breakdown!!

Most of you will have seen the UFC breakdown's by Dan Hardy and Robin Black both of which are amazing breakdowns. This article is going to be my own take on how each fighter can win the fight.

Right I'll start with Nate Diaz. We all know that Diaz has the ability to beat McGregor. The UFC did very good breakdowns on Diaz. The first thing I will talk about is the head movement of Diaz. The only thing I feel that was missed out of the other breakdowns I've seen is this. The breakdowns talked about the shoulder roll, Diaz used his right shoulder to block McGregor's left hand causing it to glance off of his head, stopping the full impact from hitting his chin.

However one thing I remember talking to my coach about when the first fight was announced was the ability that Diaz has to lean back just an inch away out of the punch or kick. This could become a complete game changer because of the way Conor throws his left hand. If you watch a birds eye view of the end result of the left hand his fist is by his hip. If Diaz was to throw a right hook straight left combo at this point Conor wouldn't be able to defend it in any way. We didn't see this during the first fight because Diaz took the fight on eleven days notice and he didn't spar before the fight. Any fighter or martial artist will agree with this statement, when you take time off of sparring the first thing to go is your timing. So when you come back you end up getting caught with shots you normally would slip out of the way of. Diaz even mentioned this in his post fight interview which everyone has forgotten about.

JIU JITSU!! Nate Diaz is a black belt under Cesar Gracie (anyone who does not know who the Gracie's are never read this blog again and go watch tennis!) for over a decade. Diaz's twenty wins twelve of them are made up of submission wins. All three of McGregor's losses are by submission. Even with McGregor bringing in a jiu jitsu specialist for the last eighteen weeks will not be enough. Yes it will help raise his game if he was fighting a Chad Mendes or Frankie Edgar who is going to take you down and beat you up, that jiu jitsu help will make you more comfortable on your back.

However when you are grappling with a Jiu Jitsu practitioner on the level of Diaz eighteen months isn't enough let alone eighteen weeks. However Diaz only has thirty two percent take down accuracy. Diaz has so many submissions due to the fact he puts so much pressure on his opponents that they mentally break and shoot for a take down even if it successful Diaz is in his element.

The final point I have is that he needs to keep the fight in boxing range NOT Conor's kicking range. (which I'll talk about in McGregor's breakdown.) Nate Diaz has been boxing since he was a young kid with his brother. Diaz has a very unorthodox style of boxing where he throws his punches at fifty percent power until he sees that he has you hurt. He also throws his shots as a flick so there is no load up for example his hooks are more like slaps.

Now for the Notorious one. Conor did have a huge amount of success in the first encounter. However if he plans on fighting the same way again and hoping for the same success he could be in for a long and rough night. Not because Conor's skills have decreased but because of the points I touched upon.

The first thing McGregor needs to do is check his ego as soon as his music hits those speakers. He went in to the last fight emotionally invested because of Diaz's blatant disrespect and disinterest in Conor. What I mean by checking his ego is going back to his footwork. Diaz is the bigger guy and loves a dog fight so walking flat footed and meeting him in the middle of the octagon is what he wants. Conor needs to use his footwork to get him into his striking distance and not just walk through Nate's.

Secondly the Notorious one needs to use his kicks. This will eliminate the range advantage help by Diaz, because as everyone knows a leg is longer than an arm. Conor will definitely win the exchanges of legs, but you can argue that Diaz is the better boxer even though Conor has great hands and is a national boxing champion. Nate Diaz spars with Andre Ward. He needs to diversify his kicks to keep Diaz guessing. So throwing everything from side kicks to the body and thigh to hook kicks to the head. The more straight kicks he uses such as side kicks and push kicks the harder it will be for Diaz to utilize his game plan.

The final thing is DO NOT I repeat DO NOT GO FOR A FUCKING TAKE DOWN. Now we all know McGregor is a true champion and as a result will want to prove he can take Diaz down and do damage, but please I beg you do not do it, it isn't worth it.

That is my brief analysis of how I feel both fighters can win this fight. Feel free to comment with any points I may have missed.
